Just months before the release of the highly anticipated biopic "Michael," about the life of the King of Pop, Paris Jackson, Michael Jackson's daughter, has publicly clarified her position. In a recent series of Instagram posts, the singer and actress denounced the reclamation of her name and a "watered-down" version of her father's story.
While actor Colman Domingo, who plays Joe Jackson in the film, recently claimed that Paris and her brother Prince supported the project, the main person concerned quickly denied it. "Don't tell people I was 'helpful' on the set of a movie I had no involvement in. It's weird," she wrote on Instagram.
Paris Jackson, Michael Jackson's daughter, said she only read an early draft of the script and shared her concerns. She said these comments were ignored: "When they didn't correct the things I found dishonest, I gave up. This isn't my circus."
Beyond her own disagreement with the "Michael" project, Paris Jackson took the opportunity to denounce the Hollywood model of biopics: "The story is controlled, there are a lot of inaccuracies, outright lies." She deplores the fact that the film is aimed at a section of her father's fans who "still live in a kind of fantasy" and that this approach distorts the complexity of the man he was.
Produced in collaboration with the Jackson Estate, the biopic was released in 2019 but has experienced several turbulences, including script rewrites related to sensitive subject matter. Jaafar Jackson, Michael's nephew, stars alongside Miles Teller, Nia Long, and Kat Graham. Michael is scheduled for release on April 24, 2026.
