Sir Anthony Hopkins turns six decades of compositions into debut album

Sir Anthony Hopkins is adding another achievement to his extraordinary career: music. The 88-year-old actor has prepared his debut album, 'Life is a Dream', featuring 12 compositions created over six decades and inspired by his childhood and life growing up in Wales. Recorded at London’s Alexandra Palace in April, the album was conducted by Gustavo Dudamel and performed by the Philharmonia Orchestra. It is set for release by Decca Records on August 21. “My first love, or vocation really, is music,” Hopkins explained in a statement, sharing that he began playing piano at age four and wrote his first composition, a waltz, in 1960. Hopkins has previously composed music for films including 'August' (1996), 'Slipstream' (2007), and 'Elyse'(2020), but 'Life is a Dream' marks his first full album. “I find more freedom with music,” he said, compared to acting, which he describes as “a discipline, you have to know your stuff. But music for me is a freewheeling kind of art form.” The collection explores nostalgia, childhood memories, mortality, and “the yearning” he believes lies at the heart of music. From actors who sing on screen to stars who form bands and release albums, Hollywood has plenty of performers with musical ambitions. Click through the following gallery to discover the familiar faces who have explored a different tune.

Actors who hated their most iconic roles

As an actor, taking on an iconic role can make your career, but not every star looks back on their biggest performances fondly. Here are a few actors who have spoken openly about disliking their most iconic roles... Mark Wahlberg has little love for his role in ‘Boogie Nights,’ where he played adult entertainer Dirk Diggler. In an interview with Chicago Inc, Wahlberg even joked that he hoped God would forgive him for making the movie. “Boogie Nights is up there at the top of the list,” he said when discussing some of his worst role choices. Kate Winslet doesn't hate ‘Titanic,’ but she isn't exactly a fan of her own performance as Rose. Looking back at the movie, Winslet told the Telegraph that she finds herself questioning almost every scene. She also admitted she can't listen to her American accent without cringing. “Oh God, I want to do that again,” she said, explaining that actors tend to be their own worst critics. Megan Fox has also been candid about her mixed feelings toward the ‘Transformers’ franchise. While acknowledging that the movies launched her career and opened plenty of doors, she was critical of the acting involved. In an interview with Wonderland magazine, Fox described director Michael Bay as “a nightmare” to work for and accused him of misogynistic behavior on set. Shia LaBeouf was similarly unhappy with his performance in ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.’ Reflecting on the 2008 film, LaBeouf told the LA Times that he felt he had “dropped the ball” on a beloved franchise. He added that, as the actor, it was his job to make the role work, and he felt he hadn't done that.
