EASTENDERS FANS WILL BE ABLE TO STEP INSIDE THE LEGENDARY SET - AS UK FILM STUDIOS OPEN AS MUSEUM

Soon TV and film fans will be able to step inside their favourite programmes as a new museum is set to open.

Funding for an immersive Elstree Studios experience was approved and announced in a Hertsmere Borough Council meeting on November 26.

Elstree Studios, in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, is home to various iconic sets including EastEnders and Star Wars

The location of the Elstree Immersive Experience is yet to be confirmed but will be based in the local area.

It is set to use holographics, virtual production and AI-assisted storytelling to 'bring audiences into the heart of the screen industries'.

Visitor will be able to delve into the world of EastEnders, and 'even taking part in the launch of a major new movie filmed right here in Borehamwood,' according to Hertsmere Labour.

The exciting project will receive £2million in funding from the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).

Set to fully open in December 2026, the museum will also be boosted by funding from the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology as well as the local council.

Councillor Jeremy Newmark, Leader of Hertsmere Borough Council and Chair of Elstree Film Studios, said: 'This investment marks the beginning of a new chapter for Elstree.

'We’re creating an experience that allows the public to connect with our screen heritage in a way that’s never been possible before.

'It will be a landmark attraction for our borough — inspiring young people, drawing visitors from across the country, and giving a powerful lift to our high street and local economy.

'This is an ambitious project, and we’re proud to back it.'

The project could create up to 150 indirect job opportunities in the local area and 60 direct jobs.

A soft launch is thought to be scheduled for September next year before the museum opens properly in December.

Councillor Chris Myers, Cabinet Member for Culture and Board Member at Elstree Film Studios, previously commented: 'What's so exciting about this is that it's not a museum, it's alive.

'The technology will let us create completely new experiences, whether it's the story of EastEnders, Shakespeare on stage, or the latest blockbuster filmed right here.

'It's also a space for schools, families and visitors to learn through experience and it will generate income that's reinvested straight back into local services. This really is something special for Borehamwood.'

The experience is set to celebrate 100 years of film and TV production in the area.

It comes as it was recently announced the world's largest immersive Pixar exhibition is coming to the UK, allowing fans to step into their favourite film universes.

Mundo Pixar Experience is a multi-sensory exhibition which offers fans of all ages a chance to relive the stories that have shaped generations up close.

Following its success in Brazil, Mexico, Belgium and Spain, where it welcomed more than 3million visitors, Mundo Pixar Experience will arrive at Wembley Park from February 13, 2026.
